THE SOCIAL NETWORK REMIX CONTEST
Two tracks from The Social Network score are now available as free multitrack downloads from the NIN remix community at remix.nin.com. We encourage you to remix, remake, destroy, and be as creative as you'd like with this material.
We're holding a remix contest where Trent and Atticus will choose their favorite creations from the top-rated mixes at remix.nin.com. Unfortunately, our lawyers are forcing us to restrict the contest to US citizens aged 18 or over. This is not how we'd prefer to do things, but our hands are tied here. If you're under 18 and/or located outside the US, please don't be discouraged from creating your own remixes. We encourage EVERYONE to submit their work regardless of whether it qualifies for the contest or not.
The timing on this is quick - mixes must be submitted by Tuesday, September 28th at 12pm PST. We know this isn't much time but life can be like that sometimes. Rise to the occasion. Abandon the plans you had this weekend. Show the world what you're capable of.
With that said, here are the contest details for those eligible. Please read everything carefully, there's a regrettable amount of fine print we have to include:
- A flight to LA (if not an LA-area resident*) for you and a guest on or around October 1st, 2010.
- Hotel accommodations** for two nights
- Two tickets to see "The Social Network" at a theater on opening night in LA***
- Meet up with Trent and Atticus
- A signed art proof from the Social Network package. These are made during the manufacturing process and are completely unique - only one is ever made.
We may also include the winning remixes on a potential future official remix compilation.
*"LA-area resident" is defined as anyone who resides within 100 miles of Los Angeles, CA. Grand Prize Winner’s guest will be deemed to reside where Grand Prize Winner resides.
**One room, double occupancy.
***Trent and Atticus will not be attending the movie with the winners.
This contest is open to (i) legal US Residents, (ii) who are eighteen (18) years or older. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED OR RESTRICTED BY LAW. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY.
ENTRY PERIOD/HOW TO ENTER CONTEST:
Create a great remix (you may submit more than one, as long as they are different) using the multitrack files, and upload it to the remix community at remix.nin.com between Friday, September 24th, 2010 at 12:00pm PST and Tuesday, September 28th, 2010 at 12:00pm PST.
Your remix entry cannot contain any copyrighted material (i.e., musical compositions and/or sound recordings by other artists, audio samples from movies, etc). Entries that contain copyrighted material not owned and controlled by you will not be eligible and will not be considered for the Contest.
Feel free to use your own original music in the remix, as long as you are the sole owner of the music and it is not copyrighted.
Your Remix Entry must be posted no sooner than Friday, September 24th, 2010 at 12:00pm PST and must have completed uploading no later than Tuesday, September 28th, 2010 at 12:00pm PST (“Entry Period”). Remix Entries that finish uploading after the Entry Period will not be considered. The Website's clock will be the official time keeper for the Contest. By participating in the Contest, you unconditionally accept and agree to comply with and abide by these Official Rules and the decisions of the Null II and the judges, which decisions shall be final and binding in all respects.

You can also promote your remixes on our Facebook wall here. NOTIFICATION OF WINNERS:
The Grand Prize Winner and Runner-Up will be notified by e-mail. Null II shall have no liability for any winner notification that is lost, intercepted or not received by the potential winner and/or runner-up for any reason. If, despite reasonable efforts, a Grand Prize Winner and/or Runner-Up does not respond within twelve (12) hours of the first notification attempt, or if the Grand Prize or Runner-Up Prize is declined or either prize notification is returned as unclaimed or undeliverable to such potential Grand Prize Winner and/or Runner-up, such potential Grand Prize Winner and/or Runner-up will forfeit his or her prize. If it is determined that any potential Grand Prize winner and/or runner-up is found to be ineligible, or if he or she has not complied with these Official Rules, such potential winner and/or runner-up will be disqualified and an alternate winner and/or runner-up may be selected. The Grand Prize Winner (and their guest) and Runner-up may be required to execute and return an Affidavit of Eligibility, and Liability/Publicity Release prior to receipt of the applicable prize. If a selected winner fails to claim a prize and/or fails to return any Affidavit of Eligibility and Liability/Publicity Release, Null II may elect to disqualify the selected winner, who will then forfeit his or her right to receive a prize. The Runner-Up should allow approximately 90 days for delivery of the Runner-Up Prize. By accepting a prize, each winner agrees that Null II may, without any limitation or further compensation, use his or her name, screen name, voice and/or likeness in any and all media.
ODDS OF WINNING:
The odds of winning the Contest will be determined solely by the number of entries submitted and deemed eligible for the Contest.
The Grand Prize and Runner-Up Prize are non-refundable, non-transferable, non-exchangeable, non- assignable, and are not redeemable for cash. There will be no substitution of the Grand Prize and/or Runner Up Prize and no cash given in lieu of the Grand Prize and/or Runner-Up Prize, except at the sole discretion of Null II.
Approximate value of the Grand Prize is $2,750. Approximate value of the Runner-Up Prize is $500.
The Winner and Runner-Up are responsible for the payment of any and all taxes and/or fees that may apply to such prizes. Winner and Runner-Up are also solely responsible for any and all expenses not specified above.

(a) Except as provided in section (b) below, Null II will maintain ownership of all Contest Materials, and that Null II will own all Remix Entries entered by you in the contest or otherwise uploaded to the website. You hereby grant, sell, transfer, assign and convey to Null II, and Null II’s successors and assigns, all present and future right, title and interest of every kind and nature whatsoever, including, without limitation, all copyrights, in and to the Remix Entries for exploitation throughout the universe, in perpetuity, by means of any and all media and devices whether now known or hereafter devised. Null II shall have the right to edit or alter the Remix Entires for any purpose which Null II deems necessary or desirable, and you irrevocably waive any and all so-called “moral rights” that you may have in the Remix Entries submitted by you. You hereby acknowledge that you do not reserve any rights in and to the Remix Entries.
(b) Notwithstanding the foregoing, you will retain whatever rights you had in and to any material solely owned and controlled by you (“Additional Elements”) that may be incorporated into a particular Remix Entry, subject to an irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide, non-exclusive license that you grant to Null II to use such material throughout the universe in perpetuity in any and all media now known or hereafter devised.
REPRESENTATIONS AND WARRANTIES/INDEMNIFICATION:
By entering into this Contest, you represent and warrant to Null II that any Remix Entry you submit: (a) is your own original work, (b) is not the subject of any actual or threatened litigation or claim, (c) does not infringe upon or violate the intellectual property rights or other rights of any person or entity, and (d) does not and will not violate any applicable laws. You hereby agree to indemnify and hold Null II (and its officers, directors, employees, shareholders, agents, representatives, affiliates, and licensees) harmless from and against any and all third party claims, actions or proceedings of any kind and from any and all damages, liabilities, costs and expenses relating to or arising out of any breach or alleged breach of any of your warranties, representations or agreements hereunder.
Null II reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel or suspend the Contest if any bug, virus or other cause beyond its control corrupts the administration or security of the Contest. Null II may prohibit you from participating in the Contest if, in the sole opinion of the Null II, you repeatedly show a disregard for these Official Rules, or act in any other disruptive manner. Entries may be disqualified in Null II’s sole discretion if attempts are made to disrupt the Contest or circumvent the provisions of these Official Rules; in such event, Null II reserves the right to remedy any such action, disruption or circumvention in a manner which is, in the Null II’s sole opinion, fair and equitable to Contest participants. Null II (and Null II’s officers, employees, agents, representatives, affiliates, and licensees) are not responsible for: (a) late, lost, delayed, damaged, misdirected, incomplete, illegible or unintelligible entries, (b) any failure or malfunction of, or difficulty with, any telephone line, cable line or other means of transmission, or any computer or other equipment, or any software or other program, (c) errors in transmission, (d) any condition caused by events beyond our control that may cause damage to any participant's hardware or software, (e) any injury, loss or damage of any kind caused by any Prize or resulting from acceptance, possession or use or misuse of any Prize, or from participation in the Contest or any Contest related activity, or (f) any printing or typographical error in any materials associated with the Contest.
NATURE OF RELATIONSHIP/WAIVER OF EQUITABLE RELIEF:
You hereby acknowledge and agree that the relationship between you and Null II is not a confidential, fiduciary, or other special relationship, and that the your decision to provide any Remix Entry to Null II for purposes of the Contest does not place Null II in a position that is any different from the position held by members of the general public with regard to elements of your Remix Entry. You understand and acknowledge that Null II has wide access to ideas and material. You also acknowledge that many ideas or material may be competitive with, similar or identical to your Remix Entry and/or each other in any number of other respects. You acknowledge and agree that Null II does not now and shall not have in the future any duty or liability, direct or indirect, vicarious, contributory, or otherwise, with respect to the infringement or protection of your rights, if any, in the Additional Elements. Finally, you acknowledge that, with respect to any claim by you relating to or arising out of Null II’s actual or alleged exploitation or use of any of your Remix Entries or other material submitted in connection with the Contest, the damage, if any, thereby caused to you will not be irreparable or otherwise sufficient to entitle you to seek injunctive or other equitable relief or in any way enjoin the production, distribution, exhibition or other exploitation of anything based on or allegedly based on the Remix Entries, and your rights and remedies in any such event shall be strictly limited to the right to recover damages, if any, in an action at law.
This Agreement shall be governed and construed under the laws of the State of California, without application of its conflict of laws principles. Any controversy or claim arising out of or relating to this Agreement, its enforcement, arbitrability or interpretation, shall be submitted to final and binding arbitration, to be held in Los Angeles County, California, before a single arbitrator, in accordance with California Code of Civil Procedure §§ 1280 et seq. The arbitrator shall be selected by mutual agreement of the parties or, if the parties cannot agree, by selecting from a list of arbitrators supplied by the American Arbitration Association or JAMS/Endispute. The arbitration shall be a confidential proceeding, closed to the general public. The arbitrator shall issue a written opinion stating the essential findings and conclusions upon which the arbitrator’s award is based. The parties will share equally in payment of the arbitrator’s fees and arbitration expenses and any other costs unique to the arbitration hearing; provided, however, that each side shall bear its own deposition, witness, expert and attorneys’ fees and other expenses to the same extent as if the matter were being heard in court. Nothing in this paragraph shall affect either party’s ability to seek from a court injunctive or equitable relief at any time.
If Null II desires to secure additional assignments or other documents as Null II may reasonably require in order to effectuate the ownership of the materials comprising the Remix Entry, then you agree to sign the same upon Null II’s request.
NO OBLIGATION TO USE:
Null II shall have no obligation (express or implied) to use any Remix Entry, or to develop, produce, distribute or otherwise exploit the Remix Entries, and you shall not be entitled to any damages or other relief by reason thereof.
The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of these Official Rules shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision. In the event that any provision is determined to be invalid or otherwise unenforceable or illegal, these Official Rules shall otherwise remain in effect and shall be construed in accordance with their terms as if the invalid or illegal provision were not contained herein.
To receive a list of winners (available seven (7) days after the Prizes are awarded) send a self-addressed stamped envelope to: TSN Remix Contest Winners, 1801 Century Park West, Los Angeles, California 90067.
